ADA COUNTY- The Ada County Highway District joins public agencies across the country in celebrating National Public Works Week. The national campaign honors the tens of thousands of men and women who provide and maintain essential infrastructure and services, from the pipes below ground and the pavement we drive on, to the power lines that run above us.
The theme of the 2023 National Public Works Week is "Connecting the World through Public Works". According to the American Public Works Association, "public works is the thread that connects us all, no matter where we live in the world. Every public works professional strives to improve the quality of life for the community they serve, leading to healthier, happier communities."
The District's Commission President, Alexis Pickering, signed a proclamation celebrating National Public Works Week and recognizing the valuable work of those ACHD employees during the regular commission meeting this week.
ACHD will join with Public Works professionals from around the Treasure Valley at the Meridian Public Works Week Expo on June 7. At the event, kids and adults alike will have the opportunity to learn more about the critical services that Public Works teams perform daily to serve their communities. ACHD employees will be at Meridian City Hall, with several pieces of equipment and displays. Families are invited to climb into the heavy equipment and explore the tools ACHD uses to build and maintain Ada County's transportation network.
"The national celebration of Public Works Week may only last seven days, but this selfless and often difficult and dirty work is something to be celebrated each day," said ACHD Commission President, Alexis Pickering. "It's easy to take our safe roads, running water, or trash collection for granted. Today, and every day, I thank the team members of ACHD and our partner agencies across the county who ensure that our days are not without the power needed to light our homes, street lights and traffic signals; the water to nourish our bodies; and the science to protect our environment."
