ADA COUNTY- Nathaniel Campbell, an intern in the Ada County Highway District's planning and projects department, is being recognized as a Fulbright Student Grantee.
The Fulbright Program provides the opportunity for young professionals to conduct research, lecture, and take part in professional development in over 160 countries. Campbell is one of three Boise State University Students to earn the prestigious honor for 2023.
Campbell will head to Denmark to continue his education and research at Aalborg University in Aalborg, located in Northern Denmark. His studies relate to sustainable urban and energy development, which he hopes to apply to a non-profit that specializes in development and planning in underserved and rural areas.
The Fulbright program is highly selective, with only 8,000 awards distributed worldwide. Fulbright alumni include 89 Pulitzer Prize winners, 78 MacArthur Fellows, and 62 Nobel Laureates, and has created thousands of leaders. All Fulbright grantees are approved by a 12-person board, who are all appointed by the President of the United States.
"Pursuing my passions in Denmark is an opportunity that I could not have attained without the help of amazing professors and mentors across Boise State University," said Campbell. "Additionally, I am indelibly grateful for all of the people that have helped me put in the work necessary to earn such an achievement, including my friends, family, and colleagues at the Ada County Highway District."
While at ACHD, Campbell worked on several planning projects, including the District's 2021 ADA Annual Report, which he presented to the Board of Commissioners in August 2022.
"We are proud to see one of our own be granted the privilege to participate in a program as incredible as Fulbright," said Justin Lucas, Deputy Director of Planning and Projects. "Nathaniel has been a great asset to our team here at ACHD and we couldn't be more excited to see him find success in Denmark and beyond."
