GARDEN CITY- The Ada County Highway District is helping to shape the next generation of transportation excellence with the successful return of ACHD Kids Day.
During Kids Day, ACHD employees are encouraged to bring their children to work with them for a day of learning, engagement, and fun. The event was held on National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.
Over 150 kids joined their parents in getting a first-hand look at the various job opportunities at the District.
Staff members escorted families through ACHD's facilities to educate them on the wide range of critical duties ACHD performs each day. Participants toured ACHD's sign shop, signal shop, paint shed, traffic management center and testing lab. At each area, employees demonstrated the work they do and the equipment they use.
The day also included a tour of the Adams maintenance facility, where children were able to test various pieces of equipment in a safe environment.
Throughout the day, staff members conducted educational STEM-related activities, and educated participants on how ACHD protects the environment and local waterways. Staff members volunteered their time escorting families around ACHD throughout the day.
"Kids Day is a great opportunity for employees to show off their skills, and for children to learn more about the important work their parents do each day," said Jen Bingham, HR Generalist and one of the organizers of Kids Day. "We hope it also inspires kids to consider the many opportunities available in the transportation industry and local government as a whole."
ACHD was excited to bring this 20-year tradition back to life after a short pause through the pandemic.
