ADA COUNTY- The Ada County Highway District is joining agency partners, contractors, construction organizations, and the public in bringing awareness to the importance of safety in work zones.
National Work Zone Awareness Week is a national campaign that highlights the importance of work zone safety in an effort to help protect those who regularly work in the cone zone.
This year's theme is: "You play a role in work zone safety. Work with us." Throughout the week, ACHD will send reminders of ways citizens play a role in keeping employees and fellow citizens safe in work zones.
Wednesday, April 19 is "Go Orange Day," when the public is encouraged to support those who are regularly in work zones by wearing orange.
"Throughout the year, ACHD works with contractors, utility companies, agency partners, and the public to ensure each project on our roadways is completed safely," said Ryan Head, Deputy Director of Development and Technical Services at the District. "We all play a role in making sure workers make it home safely to their families each day."
The public can help ACHD and other agencies keep work zones safe by slowing down, paying attention and using detour routes. ACHD's Roadwork In The Area (RITA) Map shows current and planned closures in Ada County, which can help residents plan their route.
Commuters are reminded to obey all signs in work zones and along detour routes. Commuters should never attempt to drive, bike, or walk in work zones, regardless of whether there appears to be active construction. It is unlawful to move or manipulate construction signs and doing so can put commuters and construction workers at great risk.
