ACHD Charity Golf Tournament Raises $230,000 for First Tee-Idaho

The Ada County Highway District raised a record-breaking $230,000 to help children learn the game of golf during the 20th annual Charity Golf Tournament. The tournament was held Saturday at The Club at SpurWing in Meridian.

Proceeds from this year's tournament will benefit First Tee-Idaho, a non-profit youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to young people throughout Idaho. It is one of 150 chapters of First Tee, helping to integrate the game of golf with life skills curriculum.

This year, nearly 1,200 students are registered for the program, compared to 440 in 2019. First Tee-Idaho operates on eight golf courses in the Treasure Valley, and is looking to build a new facility to accommodate more students in its programs.

"Our biggest priority is ensuring that all students have the opportunity to participate in our program no matter what," said Katie McElvey, Program Director for First Tee-Idaho.

The Annual ACHD Charity Golf Tournament is completely employee-driven by ACHD team members who volunteer their time, select the charity, and handle all logistics to give back to the community. They are joined by generous community organizations and partners. This year's Tournament Sponsors were the Julius C. Jeker Foundation and TDS Telecommunications. Community Sponsors were Catherine Stein and the Van Auker Family and Holland & Hart LLP was the Major Sponsor. Many others joined in sponsoring the event.

"The generous support from sponsors, participating teams, and ACHD employees each year is incredible," said ACHD Commission President Mary May. "I thank all those who helped make this year's event a success."

Each year a different charity is selected for the tournament. Previous charities include The Wyakin Foundation, The Children's Home Society of Idaho, Camp Rainbow Gold and the Idaho Guard and Reserve.
