ACHD Commuteride is recognizing businesses and organizations for supporting employees with their commute options during the annual May in Motion campaign.
May in Motion brings together organizations in the Treasure Valley to promote the use of smart commuting including bicycling, walking, carpooling, bussing, vanpooling and telecommuting. Awards are given based on the organization's employee participation, communication efforts to promote transportation options to their employees, and the commute incentives and benefits they provide.
This year, 49 businesses participated in May in Motion, with participants taking 13,890 trips by alternative commute modes; that's an average of 631 trips each workday in May. Thanks to employees' efforts, 213,000 vehicle miles were removed from Treasure Valley roadways, and 70 tons of CO2 were removed from the valley's air. Telework and bicycling were the two most popular ways employees used smart commuting during May in Motion.
"I am excited to see this level of participation from the businesses of Ada County in support of May in Motion," said ACHD Commission President Mary May. "I applaud their efforts and look forward to seeing these smart transportation choices continue throughout the rest of the year."
