Crews with the Ada County Highway District have been working around the clock shifts since early Friday morning to handle the winter storm systems rolling through the Treasure Valley. Today, Monday February 15h, ACHD crews have been treating the roads since 2 a.m.
The roads in the urban areas are looking good. Crews are finding the storm has been heavier on the outer portions of the county, so ACHD has doubled up operators on those routes, especially in the western and northern areas of Ada County.
ACHD will continue to work closely with the National Weather Service to respond as the weather changes between snow, sleet, and rain. Crews are working to clear drainage inlets to prevent flooding as temperatures rise.
ACHD is maximizing every piece of available snow equipment for this winter storm, including 64 trucks capable of spreading salt, salt/sand mix, and/or magnesium chloride for de-icing and increased traction, and 46 plows to clear the roads. The District currently has over 175,000 gallons of magnesium chloride and 5,000 tons of salt on hand.
