Commission votes to postpone State Street, Pierce Park Intersection Project

The Ada County Highway District Commission voted unanimously yesterday (Wednesday, April 22nd) to delay the State Street and Pierce Park Intersection project indefinitely.

ACHD staff recommended postponement of the project to the Commission. The postponement will give staff the opportunity to redesign the project in order to take advantage of previously-acquired right-of-way which will eliminate costly impacts to the Plantation Country Club. It will also allow some financial leeway as ACHD determines and maneuvers through the presently unknown impacts of COVID-19 on upcoming budgets.

The project involves widening State Street from Ellens Ferry Drive to North Hertford Way to three travel lanes in each direction; replacing a portion of the existing two-way left turn center lane with a center-lane median; and realigning the intersection of Pierce Park and State Street.

A Traffic Impact Study (TIS) previously done as part of the project does not indicate an immediate need for the planned improvements. A pedestrian project completed in 2016 constructed (and connected) sidewalks along State Street between Glenwood Street and Veteran's Memorial Parkway.

This large intersection project is just one piece of an even larger vision for the State Street Corridor (TTOP). ACHD will continue to coordinate the design with the ongoing transit study being spearheaded by partner agencies throughout the county.
